IBC - Bigger than ever

28.09.2012 16:46:00 von review

Guess where I was

The IBC had 2 new halls, over 1,400 exhibitors and a record attendance of 51,000 visitors.

Guess where I am?

What's new? Well lots of course in this industry, but I noticed that for the first time Nikon had a stand: DSLR's video features being developed still further.

Not new, but 4K (3840 × 2160) and Super High Vision 8K  (7680 x 4320 resolution - that's 16x HD) are of course stunning to see. They are designed so that you can sit up close to the screen and be "fully immersed" in the experience - My mother always warned me NOT to sit close to the TV!

Stereoscopic 3D took a back seat, more because it has settled in as a format and isn't expected to be taken up in every home (now there's a surprise!)

The "Big Screen" as the IBC cinema is aptly known (1,700 seats) was kitted out for the first ever showing of a 3D feature length film screened using laser projection technology from Christie with a whopping 14ft lambert luminance (normal cinemas reach 2 to 4ft lambert!) Dolby 7.1 surround and a serious speaker setup behind the screen (see photo)

 Big Screen - Big Sound

My kit wish list grew yet again (no Laser projector planned yet. Maybe those backscreen speakers though ;-) and the motivation boost of the IBC was as always welcome.
